Trigeminal Neuralgia (also called TN), is a painful disorder that affects the facial area. When someone receives a diagnosis for this condition, they can experience several sudden and sporadic bursts of pain that directly affect the forehead, scalp, eyes, nose, lips and the upper/lower jaw. This pain is because of the trigeminal nerve that directly connects to the brain. When this nerve is in misalignment, it can create a chronic pain condition that directly and negatively affects the facial area.
The main symptom that people with TN experience is experiencing facial pain. The pain tends to often come on quickly and without warning but can also be slow and constant. The episodes tend to come and go without any type of pattern. These symptoms can get worse over time, which can get in the way of people being able to live their life to the fullest.
Since the symptoms of TN can mimic a number of other spine-related conditions, we will need to conduct a professional trigeminal neuralgia examination. This examination will include a physical exam as well as a neurological exam. We will also ask the patient questions in order to determine the patient’s condition and the most effective form of treatment. If the patient is struggling with TN, then we will begin the treatment process for that condition.
Treatment options for those suffering with TN include taking medication prescribed by a professional, exercising, meditation therapy, nutritional therapy and surgery. We will recommend the most effective treatment option after we examine the patient’s condition.
